Status of Women Report
Many people would be surprised to know that the women in Mali play an extremely important role in society. Women are often the ones to make sure that there is food on their families table and run the household. While the law regards women as equals to men, tradition may inhibit their roles in society. Many activists groups are trying to find an end to the issue but because it is a religious tradition, they are having an issue putting an end to it. There is also a lot of violence and rape against women of Mali.
Women also receive less education than men. Many young women do not even finish primary school and the enrollment for girls is extremely low. Although thats the case, in some instances women are looked to for their wisdom and intelligence. As stated before, the role of women is extremely complex in the society of Mali. While the law regards women as equals, tradition somewhat goes against that.

Government System
Up until the Military Coup of 2012, the government system of Mali was very similar to the United States. Mali adopted this government style when they gained their independence from France. The government was ran as a republic nation, having a president and a system of checks and balances. There indeed are several branches to the government including legislative, Judicial, and executive branches. A president is elected by popular choice and then in turn selects a prime minister. The prime minister then helps in selecting a cabinet of officials to assist the president and prime minister in making decisions. This is all extremely similar to the US. However, the political parties are not extremely similar to that of the US. Some example of political parties include rally for mali, independent, and National rebirth parties. Administratively, there are 8 different regions in Mali. Those eight regions are then broken down into districts and then further broken down until you get down to the villages.
Oil Production Vs. Production
Oil Production: 0 brrls/year
Oil Consumption: 5.2- Ranking 92nd in the world according to CIA Factbook
Mali is definitely not known for its importing or exporting oil. The country has very little oil imported every year, ranking 92nd compared to all other countries. Mali has produced zero oil in its history. Due to the fact that it has such little oil imported, Mali cannot sustain factories in the country or use things that consume large amounts of oil. However, since Mali is known for agriculture exports, they do not need large amounts of oil to sustain their crop cultivation. On the other hand, social development is also made very difficult due to the fact that there is not as much oil as other countries.
